How will the BMSTC spend your dues and contributions in 2009 ?
Mt Emily Recreation Area: We can finally begin to construct the much needed trailhead facilities, improve and maintain the existing trails in the area, build new trails, sponsor competitive and non-competitive events, etc.—while ensuring that we preserve and enhance wildlife habitat. Wildlife enhancement projects are also planned (controlled burns, and wildlife/stock water developments).
• BMSTC will sponsor group rides and runs, trail work sessions, mountain
biking skills
classes, and sustainable singletrack trail education classes.
• Owsley Canyon Trailhead (non-motorized):
The parking area will be expanded, restrooms (vault toilets no running water)
will be constructed, and garbage pickup will be provided. Trailhead signs
will be added.
• Igo Lane, Lower Trailhead (non-motorized):
Parking area will be expanded, brush cleared along the road, and trailhead
signs will be added. No parking of ATV/OHV trailers or unloading is allowed.
• Igo Lane, Upper Trailhead (April 1 through Sept 30 allows access
for motorcycles and 4
wheelers or quads). Parking area will be expanded, brush cleared along the
road and trailhead signs will be added. No parking of ATV/OHV trailers or
unloading is allowed.
• Assist Eastern Oregon ATV Assoc. in trailhead improvements at Fox
Hill, construction of
the ATV Safety training area, and new ATV trails. Please note that without
the funding from ATVer’s/OHVer’s in Oregon, there would be no
Mt Emily Recreation Area—we can show our appreciation by helping to
improve the infrastructure for the motorized users.
Deal Canyon Access
Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to take off from La Grande and hike, jog, bicycle or x-country ski to Morgan Lake, via Deal Canyon ? We intend to work with the City of La Grande and Union County to establish a singletrack trail/public easement from La Grande to Morgan Lake.
Wallowa-Whitman Non-Motorized Trail Expansion
Work with the Wallowa-Whitman NF to establish a non-motorized cross country ski and singletrack trail from the Dutch Flat area to Anthony Lakes Resort via Antone Cr./Anthony Cr/Bear Butte route (15 miles+). This area has been closed to motorized use for more than a decade, has a rudimentary trail system in place, and is ideally located to provide winter and summer non-motorized recreation.
